Why is the screen blank? |
|
A: |
 |
A screen may be blank for a variety of reasons. Check out the following troubleshooting techniques to find the solution. |
Check the Clarity displays
Clarity displays have many safety features to prevent personal injury, and some of these features can cause the screen to be blank. The lamps turn off and cannot be turned on until the problem is found and fixed.
Possible Cause |
Solution |
Rear panel off |
Put the rear panel on. Some Clarity displays require that the rear panel be on or lamps will not fire. |
 |
Light shield off |
Put the light shield on. Some displays have an interlock switch on the light shield that turns off the lamps when the shield is removed. This prevents you from looking at the light from a bare lamp. The lamp is much too bright to look at, and potentially harmful UV light radiates from it. (The UV light is blocked when it goes through the normal optical path). |
 |
Dead lamp |
Swap it with a lamp from a neighboring cube. |
 |
Check the source
Not all blank screens indicate a problem in the Clarity display. Sometimes it's a problem outside.
Possible Cause |
Solution |
No source |
If there is no source picture, Clarity displays turn on the "curtain." This is usually a black picture, though the "curtain" on some Clarity displays can be a selectable color. |
 |
Source is blank |
Reactivate the laptop. Most laptops turn off the screen when they are idle for a period of time. |
 |
No power |
It seems all too obvious, but it's worth checking the power switch and the power cord. |
 |
Wildcats, Lions, Panthers, and Pumas only
For Wildcats, Lions, Panthers, and Pumas, on-screen codes may help diagnose the cause. Press the Monitor button on the remote. This turns on a blinking light on the screen. If the light is Amber and steady, it means the lamps are on and there is no problem. Something else is causing the blank screen.
If the light is Amber or Red or both colors and blinks, look in the User Guide for the On-Screen Codes. The pattern of the blinking lights will tell you what is wrong.
