Q:

Can Clarity displays can be mounted at a tilt-forward angle?

A:

The answer is a qualified "Yes."

First, the answer depends on the display model in question. The new Bobcat direct-view AP/LCD™ can be mounted at up to 30° tilt-forward in either landscape or portrait mode.

For our other mountable AP/LCD products — Leopard, Lion, Puma and Wildcat — there is a tilt-forward limitation of up to 20°. In fact, the 20° limitation holds for tilt in any direction. This information can be found in the Specifications section of the User's Guide for any of our products, and is listed under Specifications: Mechanical: Orientation.

The qualification does not end there however. For Lions and Pumas, whenever the displays are tilted forward beyond 0°, the screens must be locked into place, and service must be provided from the rear. This is due to nature of the sliding screen support arms, and the difference between the static weight of the screen vs. the effective dynamic weight when the screen is in motion: When the displays tilt forward, the heavy screens increase their momentum due to gravity, and can exceed the rating of the support arms, potentially causing damage, if not injury. Wildcats are shipped with screen tethers that prevent the screens from separating completely from the chassis, and it's recommended to install the tethers, even when tilt-forward is not present.

Another requirement for tilted installations is sufficient bracing and tieback of the wall. Leopards ship with brackets that are readily adaptable to tilted walls, and present less of a mechanical challenge because they are not stackable vertically. Because Lions, Pumas and Wildcats are stackable in both directions, walls of these products can have substantial mass, therefore numerous pre-threaded attachment points on the rear surface of their chassis have been provided for ease of bracing.
